Student Council Fundraising!

The Student Council have been fundraising for over two years to buy new toys and equipment for the yard. The first of their purchases came in February 2019. They purchased goals for the yard. These were put up by Ogie and are being enjoyed by the classes in the senior yard.

The Student Council have had many fundrasing events recently. They had a very successful talent show in 2018. This talent show was enjoyable for all who came to see it.

The Student Council have been working to get toys for the yard for the junior classes too. They have asked all classes for donations for Duplo Lego from home. They are also planning more fundraising events this year!

News from the Creative Media Team!

Hello Shankill, and once again, welcome back!

Today, we’ll be discussing recent happenings in St Anne’s! As we all know, there has been Christmas fever spreading faster than the plague, and there have been plays left, right and centre, and we’re getting the scoop on the some of them. Starting in Junior Infants, in Ms Woods’ amazing class. Their class performed “Our First Nativity”. I even had the pleasure of meeting the two stars of the show who played Mary and Joseph. They said they loved playing the parts, rather than being their usual selves, Emma and Matthew. They also loved the songs. They said Ms. Woods did a really good job, and they think she’s a really cool teacher.

Next I visited Ms McManus’ class where I met Clara and Charlotte. Their play was called “The Night Before Christmas”, which they said was hilarious. They loved all of it, and the best part was, some people got to wear their PJ’s. They said Ms. McManus was great. Well done 1st Class.

Next and finally, I came to Ms. Hughes’ Senior Infants. Their play was called “Christmas Toy Story”, and I interviewed Morgan and Isabelle. They loved ‘The song with the guitars’! That narrows it down! They loved the toys, and saying lines, and they said it was fun.

They say Ms. Hughes is really nice and smart. That wraps us up for today folks. See you next time!

Ms. Kelly’s Class Project!

This year in Ms Kelly’s class we have done a lot. We will be doing projects throughout the year. Our first project was on bridges. There were so many things we could do using bridges as a topic. We could make model of bridges, write about bridges or draw pictures of bridges.  Most people decided to make a model of a bridge. However, some people chose to write about bridges too. We had about 20 days to get it done. Most people who made models used tall lollipop sticks. One bridge was made out of straws. Another person made a project out of clay. There was also a project made of wood and nails. In assembly, our class did a presentation on Bridges. Everybody had to read 1 fact about Bridges. Then, we sang the song ‘A Bridge over troubled water.’

Science Week!

This year science week was the 11th to the 18th of November. Science week is when schools all over Ireland spend a little extra time on science. Some schools decide to carry out exciting experiments. Mr. Donnelly’s 4th class made paper helicopters and oobleck. My favourite experiment was when we made oobleck. Oobleck is made out of cornflour and water. We put in red or green food colouring. We loved science week because science is such a fun subject. Science week makes learning more fun. It gives us a chance to become scientists for the week and develop new skills. We cannot wait for science week next year!

St. Anne’s Talent Show!

Hello, hello, and welcome back to St. Anne’s news!

Today, I will be informing you of the latest exciting event here in St. Anne’s…….The Talent Show! It was organised and run by the Student Council. It was a fundraiser for the student council who are interested in buying new yard equipment.

Everyone with a special talent was able to present it to the whole school. Many amazing performers took part and hearty congratulations to everyone who did. I was lucky enough to get an exclusive interview from one of the performers Ima Nwozu and one of the many organisers of our Talent Show Hannelie Foley from the Student Council!

Ima says her favourite thing about doing the talent show was the practices and seeing all of the amazing talent from all the participants. She sang “Way too good at goodbyes” while her partner Jennifer O’Dwyer amazingly danced ballet to perfection, to the melodious voice of Ima. She said that she would definitely take part again. She has benefited from the talent show because she is more confident now and in one word she described the experience as ‘amazing’!

Hannelie has enjoyed preparing for the Talent show, as she found it fun. Her favourite part was watching everybody perform. She hopes there will be another Talent Show next year, and in one word she describes it as ‘productive’. Thanks for Reading folks! 😊

A Trip to the Zoo for Fourth Class!

On Friday the 27th April 2018, Mr Allen’s, Ms Kelly’s, and Ms Travers’ fourth classes went on an educational visit to Dublin zoo. They were transported there by bus and when they got there they were split into two groups.

They saw a lot of animals such as different types of monkeys and big cats like tigers and lions. They also saw lemurs, a real panda, orangutans, sea lions and penguins.

After that they went to the African plains and met a tour guide who brought them around and showed them lots more animals and told them lots of interesting facts. She showed them gorillas, chimpanzees, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, water hogs and some other species. Then they had lunch and after lunch it was time to head back to the bus. They had a great time and learned lots. Big thanks to all the staff involved.

3…2…1…Blast Off in Third Class!

In school, we did a balloon rocket experiment. It was great fun. We watched a video of it on the Whiteboard and then we got started. If you ever want to try this at home, here is what you will need:

  • a balloon
  • tape
  • straw
  • string
  • something to hold it up with (we used a chair and a door handle.)

What to do:

  • Thread the string through the straw;
  • Blow up a balloon but don’t tie it;
  • Tape the straw (with string running through it) to the balloon;
  • Let the balloon go and it will shoot down the string.
  • Then, watch the magic!

I would definitely recommend this as I had a lot of fun and so did my class.

Alison’s Shop!

Hello! My name is Pranav and I write for the St. Anne’s Media Team.

My story is about Alison’s Shop. Alison’s shop was a place where you could get stationary. You could get cool pencils, rulers and much more. The shop started in Ms. Travers’ class and in two weeks everyone knew about it. Without Noreen, Alison and Ms Travers the shop wouldn’t have existed.

In a month it became a trend. All the money went to Trócaire and again it was thanks to Noreen, Alison and Ms. Travers. We raised €420. Fifth class also raised money for Trócaire. As a result, we were able to give Trócaire a large cheque that will support people to live with dignity and independence in some of the world’s poorest countries.

An Interview with Ms. Aivalikli’s Class

On Tuesday March 13th four students from Clonkeen College, including two past pupils of St Anne’s visited Ms. Aivalikli’s class. The Clonkeen students are taking part in a competition called the ‘Consat’.

The day started with a presentation to explain how they made and launched a water rocket and a parachute. The parachute was made from a plastic polyester in the school colours black and amber. The rocket was made from a plastic bottle and a pump.

After the talk everyone went outside to see if the rocket could be launched. They all waited eagerly. There was a great excitement when the rocket took off.

What an exciting day for everyone!

Sixth Class Confirmation

On the 14th of April, the two 6th classes (Ms. Kett’s and Ms. Aivalikli’s) officially made their Confirmation.

A few weeks prior, they had the Service of Light, in which their parents handed their baptismal candle to them, passing on the light of guidance in the next step of Christianity.

Then they had rehearsals for the big day. They had confession and lots of preparation. Many people had prayers and readings to prepare.

On the day, they all wore robes/albs, which the teachers put pins on, saying their Confirmation names. That morning everyone was bubbling with excitement. The ceremony in St. Anne’s Church was beautiful. The 5th class sang many lovely songs too. Bernie and others from the parish did a great job helping them prepare for the occasion. St. Anne’s church was filled with artwork from the 6th classes.

The parents, teachers and children were beautifully dressed in shirts and dresses. We would like to thank our priests: Monsignor Enda Lloyd, Father Jamie and Father John. We would also like to thank our photographer John Coveney. At the end of the ceremony we got class photos. We all then went back to the school for a party. We all had great fun.

After the school party many of the children went to a hotel with friends and family for a meal.

We would like to thank our teachers and principal, all the people working with the church and our parents and friends for a lovely day, thank you very much.
